Accounting Live Glasgow

Dipping a toe into the 21st century

I ordered tickets (free) for the above for the 1st/2nd November, though expect will only mamage  over on one day. Anyone know where they publish timing of events etc over the two days, have looked at website but have not spotted when things take place.

I particularly want to view Autoentry's Brendan Woods, "Using digital tools to transform your business"  and will then pick and choose some others, but planning is everything for accountants, so where do they hide the timetable on the website?

https://www.accountinglive.co.uk/seminars/

This is the first of these sort of things I have ever attended so no idea how things normally go.

If any of the regulars on here are going  then happy to meet up.

Recognition may be an issue but as long as we all wear a flower in our lapel, carry yesterday's Telegraph under our left arm (doubt see that many Telegraphs in Glasgow) and work out a coded greeting , something like , "does it ever stop raining in this godforsaken place" with the  required response  being "yes, summer is on the 23rd July most years"will work.

Wouldn't it be easier for recognition to wear a badge saying "Click click scroll, click click scroll. Anonymous"

But that would be boring, I would prefer to meet using a covert recognition system, tell Max "Moscow Rules."

Note:-For Le Carre fans there is a new book I think released this month that harks back to the earlier books and features a retired Peter Guillam, I will likely save it for the Christmas holidays.

I came across this event today from a marketing email was sent.

I, like you, was trying to see the timetable of events but couldnt see it anywhere on their website. If it's there it is well hidden.

I found that you could download a brochure, hoping that would give the timetable over the 2 days, but sadly the brochure was for those looking to exhibit.

Expect that the timetable will appear in the next few weeks as it is still 6 weeks before it happens as that what tends to happen with Accountex. The timings get firmed up nearer the time.

From looks of things it looks like accountex, which is held in London in May each year, but on a smaller scale.

Though given is only 30 miles or so away myself and a few in the office might go along for one of the days.

Well for me it is a short hop from sunny Leith and the parking at £8 for the day does not look too bad. Mind you, I hate driving in Glasgow, despite working there for over two years I always get lost.

Still, will need to visit Glasgow in October anyway as Hibs are yet again visiting Hampden and the other half needs a chaufeur . Give me a further chance to test my new sat nav- the voice command part is interesting, it does not like Scottish accents. Asking for direcions to Firhill in Edinburgh it seemed to want to take me to Hyde which I think is near Manchester.

Once timetable available will firm up which date I am going and we can all possibly arrange to say hello if attending on matching days.

The guy I requested the brochure from got back to me today. Seemingly if you sign up online for tickets they will send you the brochure with all the timetable however it isnt due to be sent out until mid Oct.

Why not just get the train to the exhibition centre it is a 3 minute walk and you can not get lost in the tunnel.

Mainly because I am lazy;

11 bus Leith to Waverley,

Train Waverley to Queen Street,

Train/clockwork orange (no idea which) Queen Street to (not sure)?

Frankly car from front door to SEC and back is so much simpler.

Ah well we can all be lazy . You do know the train station is actually called "the exhibition centre" the name makes it easy so you do not even need to think

Well, ticket now arrived but no event timetable included with the information sent, instead just a suggestion that one ought to arrive early and sign up for things on the day.

So, given no idea what is on when e.g.are the two days duplicates with same events on both, and as I therefore cannot plan anything in advance, and also given my work schedule for next week, it now looks like I will just go on the Thursday but not the Wednesday.

Must admit my initial impression is not good, lack of an advance timetable in what they sent seems pretty poor; will possibly try phoning someone see if that helps.

Started looking at timetable, will read it more carefully tonight.

Subject to scheduling being possible ,to go to everything I want to see on one day ,I will likely be there only on the Thursday.

To date I think I want to see;

Brendan Woods -Autoentry ,on digital tools

Tony Magaritelli- ICPA, MTD,HMRC and being in practice in 2017,

Jacquie Mount- ICB, MTD and how it will affect you

plus visit a few stands, but no doubt I will find others when I read more carefully.

Will advise likely free times tomorrow and we can see if
a meeting can be scheduled, anyone else?

Donald
