Accounting Software

Accounting Software

Didn't find your answer?

I have been a member in practice for a year now and I have always used excel files to do bookkeeping, invoicing and accounts for my clients.  At their year end I use the HMRC templates for Accounts (both full and abbreviated) and corporation tax returns.  I have approximately 30 clients (all of whom are 1 man/woman limited companies).  I am looking at having an accounts software package as I think it would be beneficial to have something which helps to keep me up to date with all the changes.  I am obviously looking to keep the costs down as my client base is small (although I am hoping that this will increase, so don't want something that gets really expensive if I add an extra client).  I don't need something which allows my clients to access their information as the majority of my clients struggle to use a computer.  I have looked on here at other recommendations but cannot find anything recent.  Can anyone help with recommendations?  It would be really helpful particularly if you have been in a similar situation to myself.  I currently use Moneysoft for my payroll.

Thank you

VT is the answer

You can use VTT+ for your bookkeeping and invoicing and even for starting off final accounts, then pull the data into VT Accounts for the statutory accounts.

You won't find anything better at double/treble the price, and most users love the speed and simplicity of the software.

As Above

Same answer as above plus its a multi company package, so it does't matter how many clients you have.

Ditto for VT. A search will reveal more glowing references on here

Agree

Completely agree with the above. VT is inexpensive, and simple to use. Task such as completing VAT Returns and reconciliations are made simple.

It can also provide more detailed reports such as aged debtors, and creditors without any additional work required (as long as the reconciliations are kept up to date). You can try the software free for 60 days, and is definitely worth a try.

Alternative software

As an alternative how about Adminsoft Accounts, it is:

very low costvery flexible & stable/solidregular updates (new features as well as fixes)used all over the worldincludes all ledgers (including lots of reporting P&Ls,B/S, Aged Creditor/Debtors), Cashbooks, Asset Registers, HR/Payroll (basic RTI submissions) & Stock control (not really applicable for accountants but nice addition!)Uk developed and basedActive user forum

As you can see I'm a bit of an enthusiast (I don't make anything out of this btw) for AA and having used it for the last 18 months of a growing business with clients from all sectors, it just works & works well, what more can you ask for?

VT

I agree with the majority of posts, use VT.  As the Final Accounts is an Excel add-on it is very easy to pick up if you are use to Excel.  The book keeping is fairly easy and more importantly very easy to correct any errors made!

VT / Taxcalc

I tried VT following recommendations on this site, but didn't like it as there seemed to be too much that could go wrong as it relies on Excel. Didn't like the navigation either. Also tried BTC but didn't warm to it (its dated look probably didn't help!)

TaxCalc is worth I look - I am generally very pleased so far (no micro-entity accounts though). It has a decent database for client info, template letters (you can also add your own) & mail merges. Also reminder system for deadlines.

Having 'grown up' with CCH/Viztopia, Taxcalc seemed to do most of what I used to use CCH for, but was far easier to learn and has automatic tagging. Much better tech support too.

Good luck!
