Accounting software

We are looking to move our software from Sage to Xero

Didn't find your answer?

Our practice currently uses the Sage compliance suite for SAPA, Corporation Tax, Personal Tax, Partnership Tax, Trusts and Charities.

We have been looking into using Xero for end of year accounts, Corporation Tax and Personal Tax.

My understanding is that Xero does not yet offer software for Partnership Tax, Trusts or Charities.

If anyone could offer feedback on how the transtition from Sage to Xero went and also how they approached the Patnership Tax, Trusts and Charities modules then that would be really helpful.

I use Xero for some clients but we don't integrate into their tax and reporting as its quite frankly a bit pants compared to the more established players. I was hoping it would be good for Xero clients (and possibly others) but half a day invested in trying to learn and use it I realised it was going to be much harder work than simply cutting the final TB into our normal accounts prep software (VT) and would fall over quite regularly on anything other than very vanilla situations.

How about using TaxCalc or one of the more "grown up" packages for the tax and year end, and use Xero for what its good at - bookkeeping.

One thing you may struggle with if you are using SAGE bookkeeping is your staff might struggle in the switch to Xero. Its a completely different way of doing bookkeeping. You have to change a lot of processes to use it properly, which is why a lot of long time SAGE users dont rate it as you cant use it like SAGE (thankfully!)

One way to ease the change for staff is to use the Sage code numbers for nominal accounts instead of using the Xero pre-populated ones. That way they are already familiar with where to code items to & it saves massive amounts of time.
And a Sage T-number to Xero VAT terms conversion chart can be really helpful.

I recommend Taxfiler to fill in those gaps!

Why are you looking to move?

What do the Sage compliance products not do that you want them to?
