Accounting year end date quoted by HMRC is wrong

How to correct?

Didn't find your answer?

Ltd Co set up mid Feb 2022 has been quoted as 1/4/2022-31/3/23 on my agent list of notices to deliver a Co Tax Return. Companies House states correct year end of 28 Feb.

I've been waiting on the phone for over half an hour to speak to HMRC about this, and assume I'll be cut off at some stage.

If I can't get through, should I just do the accounts and CT return for the correct period, submit and hope for the best?

What else would work to sort this out?

If you can't get through file accounts with correct period and then appeal the penalties when hmrc send them due to missing tax return periods.

In theory you should have submitted online ct41g choosing your year end - seems strange they would default to march by themselves !

Generally now their systems dont normally get thrown by mismatch in periods as much as used to be the case - proof of the pudding though is checking after you submit to ensure it all aligns correctly including the following year end. If it doesnt work its only one phonecall to request they fix anyway so give it a go is what i would say.

Yes, and like my recent client not willing to fess up on what they did.
Left alone HMRC do nothing and assume trading starts on company formation date and first accounts to Co house default date
Hence 2 CT periods.

Just file the CT600, and it should all work out.

HMRC 's systems seem to just adjust it now on the first one.

Or any other year, in my experience.

These notices are just HMRC's opening gambit.

Yes just submit and the period should update but there will be a new payment reference. So you’ll have to login to pick up the reference to give to your client so can check the periods at the same time.
