Good morning all,
We’ve just announced the launch of AccountingWEB Live, a major new exhibition for our community taking place in December next year. If you’d like to know a bit more, here’s my breathless write-up for the site.
So why am I posting here? Well, we want AccountingWEB Live to be different from the exhibitions currently out there, and to achieve that we’d like your help.
In the near future, there will be plenty of ways to be involved or let us know your views, but what I’d like to start with two quick questions:
-
What topics would you like us to cover? I appreciate that without a crystal ball it’s difficult to predict what’s going to be playing on the minds of accountants, but the more suggestions/information we get, hopefully the better the individual sessions and the event as a whole will be.
-
Are there any speakers, accountants or vendors you’d specifically like to hear from?
One thing I would like to flag at this stage is that based on this very forum we will have an ‘Any Answers theatre’. This will take the form of moderated panels, where a team of experts will discuss the topics of the day and take questions from the floor. Hence I’ve asked for topics and speakers.
We’ll be reappearing on Any Answers to update you on the event, discuss and debate suggestions, and hear your feedback and suggestions.
In the meantime, thanks as always and best wishes,
Tom

I would like to see PNL talk about PPR (or anything else for that matter, as she's always a good laugh).
I could be really tempted to pay to watch Portia answering questions from the floor notwithstanding I no longer practice and am not really a fan of blood sports involving dumb animals (though I do fish)

For those of us who can't attend, can this be recorded and played over the website. Should be great viewing if it's anything like the "Any Answers" on here.
Can't wait until a question comes from the floor and the panel answers it with "See your accountant", followed by the questioner hurling abuse.
One questioner will take umbrage at their daft question being pulled apart before breaking down in tears and start accusing the panel of bullying and saying how they're going to another websites conference as they're nicer.
And of course you'll have the guy in the crowd with the fake nose, glasses and moustache trying to hide his real identity - Ruddles knows who I'm talking about ;)
Could make it PPV.

Beat me to it ;¬)
Although it would take some disguise to conceal that ugly mug. I wonder how he'll arrive - on his motorcycle or his JPS Lotus? Or perhaps he'll get a lift in a paddy wagon.
Tom - dealing with clients in the UK who are American citizens needs to be discussed. It probably goes without saying that I'd be happy to speak at an event...
How best to leave the EU (yes I know it's dec 2020)
Come on you've got to have a bit of fun in there.
If we have left, there might be some talking points.
Hopefully we would have had a year of new HMRC leader which could indicate what is to come.
There will be many tax changes whoever comes to power.
Perhaps a chapter on what the ordinary Accountant would like to happen.
The last one is surely simple to answer- try to get politicians/government to stop doing anything for circa 5 years would be a really good start, the catch is working out how it could happen. (perpetual hung parliaments for next five years might deliver, catch is it likely will not be enough)
Maybe all prospective MPs need to do a year's work in accountancy then law then medicine then civil service then manufacturing etc- say a 10-15-20 year apprenticeship of actual work before they may become MPs.
would be good to have sessions on AI as they affect [and when] the client, our work on each client, and ourselves as individual qualified accountants.
The preposterous Joint Audits suggestion.
How far we can go/transgress the iniquitous diversity/LGBTQ/PC/"jazz hands and similar" rules before we are pulled up short - and by whom.
How far can accountants involve themselves in the abominable present Parliamentarian farago, constructively and with forethought?

Selling a business:
How should you advise a client? Who should you refer them to? How much should they pay for disposals / acquisitions / transaction advice / corporate finance involvement?
And, importantly, how you can retain the business as a client even after the shares have been sold! :)
Tom, I'm happy to take questions from the floor on the day if you want to book me in.
