I act on behalf of several clients for PAYE and have obtained authority to act on their behalf with HMRC using the online method, I have not submitted paper 64/8s. I have the clients listed on my HMRC account, I can see full details and am able to edit and change names, addresses etc and see the account status. I want to file the job retention scheme on behalf of my clients and decided to call HMRC to check my status. Amazingly I got through. The operative then told me that unless I had filed a paper 64/8 I do not have full authority and would be unable to submit client claims on my login. I argued the fact that surely this was not the case as I have full access to all my clients info and can change it. However she was adamant that a paper 64/8 was required. I am now in a state of panic, surely she is wrong? Please save my sanity?
