Agent charity account help

Problem signing up for agent charity accounts access

Didn't find your answer?

I am having problems to add charity services to my list of services via HMRC agent accounts so i can process giftaid claims. The system required "Agent reference number" and "Customer accounts reference number" , where can i find these, please?  I cant remmber having them sent to me years ago.

Many thanks in advance.

Depending upon whether you are an auhorised Charity Agent or not:
If you are a named authorised official on the ChV1 form you can speak to HMRC Charities Team and they should provide you with the details necessary. The Customer Account Reference number would have been on a letter from HMRC when the Charity first registered with HMRC.

If you are / were not on the ChV1 form then either ask someone who is or you need to submit a new form to add you ( a painful experience be warned ).

The Agent Reference number (I think) refers to your Charities Agent Reference number. You should be able to find this on your Agent Gateway account if you are registered.

Once you have them you'll get the usual authorisation code to allow you to gain access. When finally submitting the claim for the charity concerned make sure the submitter details match those held by HMRC on the ChV1 form.

If you are not yet signed up for the Charities Agent Service then you'd need to do so. As you suggest you are being asked for the Charities Agent Reference then I guess you are on a page submitting something as an agent rather than signing up for the service(?)
Hope this helps, if not can you give a bit more detail?
Dave

Many thanks D V Fields for your detailed comments . much appreciated. I am at the "services you can add" within the agent accounts section. So by the looks to things i may need to set up as 'authorised charity agent" via a new agent gateway for me to be issued with references. Just for you info , this is needed to process gift aid rather than sharing charity personal ID with me.

See also below with similar issue:

I know my Charity Agent reference did not come with my original Agent Application and did mysteriously appear ( and as others have indicated may have been due to being named on a ChV1 form ) as I cannot recall specifically applying for it. The Charities team are usually very helpful and should confirm. The Gift Aid submission will require I believe the Charity’s “EW” code as well as the name of the submitter. The latter is important because HMRC will reject if it doesn’t match their records (i.e ChV1). Good luck - you will get there!

I signed up some time ago but can't recall the exact steps except I remember it was a pain.

I think the problem here is that anyone already signed up can no longer see the screen you're looking at and anyone that hasn't obviously hasn't gone through the process to be able to help you

Sorry not much help, hopefully someone can guide you on this

I've just noticed Dave suggested completing ChV1.
I've had a look at my client and yes, I submitted this form with my details in the section "changes to the nominee and collection agency details" and received a letter from HMRC 5 weeks later.
The letter stated my agent reference number and customer reference number.
This allowed me to enrol for the charities service after which I was able to submit the gift aid claim
