Agent services account-Are clients now MTD ready?

Are those linked to my agent services account automatically registered?

Didn't find your answer?

I've created an agent services account, and linked it to the old gateway account. Are all the clients I act as agent for now registered for MTD?

It would appear not from our problems. Each business client has to have their own BTA (business tax account).
We have decided to join our clients a quarter at a time from 1/19 quarter onwards - each client has had to join the pilot and then authorises us through a special link. Once then authorised you wait 72 hrs - enter your new ASA into any software you are using, link to agent via a automated code and hey presto the vat return eventually submits.

I understand all that , what I cant deal with is clients who have trouble with an email let alone keeping full accounts on a computer , Car crash springs to mind.

I wasn't aware clients need to have a BTA, there was no mention of that on a webinar about MTD from HMRC I just attended.
Maybe that's a pilot thing?

This method works, but is not required. MTD can be done without the client having their own account.

No, they need to be registered one by one. You are registered for MTD, and your ASA has the authorisation to act for your clients under MTD, but none of them are yer enrolled.

Clients do not need their own BTA to enrol, if you are authorised to act for VAT you can register them for MTD one at a time, via this site: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/making-tax-digital-for-vat-as-an-agent-step-...

Thanks for that link Duggimon - I was half way through setting up my agent services account last week, it threw me out and I couldn't find the link again! Cheers!

Its really hap hazard. We are trying 10 at a time and then asking the clients to phone us so we can go through the process with them. The link hmrc send to them as part of the authorisation only lasts 10 days (most of the time the clients havent even opened the email and then we have to go through the whole process again) Living nightmare springs to mind

All our clients are getting HMRC letters and the standard response is " what are they on about" . I wish the very worse on HMRC for destroying all the years I have tried to ensure compliance. They are arrogant and uncaring to the needs of a small business.
