Hi, Wondering if anyone can just confirm as I'm sure I am overthinking this. Employed local radio reporter covers the local sports team, he attends all matches home and away in a national league but does not receive any travel allowance. Therefore presumably there are no issues claiming for travel / subsistence against his employment income when attending away matches, however could there be an issue with home matches / permanent workplace.
Thanks for you thoughts

Tony, you are of course familiar with the points that AA makes. You know that some people don't share their knowledge with Anonymous OPs.
But it's possible that Anonymous is more than one person. Had you thought of that? So neither AA nor you knows whether this anonymous knows what the last anonymous knows.
I think it's very thoughtful, considerate - even diligent - of AA to keep sharing this information.
Valid points if that AA's thinking . But neither you nor I know that for sure. Frankly, the use of this stock reply comes across snarky and unhelpful.
But it's true, so in fact helpful no matter how it's intended and no matter how it comes across to you.
You forget, although Anonymous comes across as a regular user (and as such would anticipate AA's stock reply), it's more likely it's lots of irregular users to whom the reply will be fresh news. (Even though they ought to have read that info when they posted... you do realise that AA is doing no more than quote Sift itself?)
I'd say you're probably overthinking it - presumably he doesn't do his actual writing at a sports stadium. In my mind HMRC would have a difficult time arguing that someone's permanent workplace is a sports stadium, his permanent workplace is most likely his employer's office.
I would be perfecetly happy to claim full subsistence allowance.
Presumably his base is the radio station? Is he using his own vehicle or a company vehicle?
Assuming radio station base and own vehicle, travelling to any match as part of his job is allowable. I'd be a bit miffed if my employer wasn't paying me mileage though, £18 tax relief for a 200 mile round trip may not even cover the fuel.
Private element?
Weekly shopping on the way home?
A drink with the other reporters after the match?
HMRC might be spoil sports.
