And so it begins

Manchester Pride

As attendance rises, and so does the noise level, the entrance and ticket booth are again outside my office Window, and the best route to the station is blocked off. Traffic is rammed on those routes still open, and the noise levels of frustrated horn blasts from them is somewhat distracting, too.

Whilst I have nothing against people celebrating whatever they want, why is it done to the complete detriment of everyone else?

With luck I won't be here next year, especially since I've just learned that they may have expanded the cordon from previous years and I may have an extra miles walk to the station. Since I rely on the train for my evening meal time (I'm type 1 diabetic), this could prove to be a problem.

You could try a pump re your type 1 control.

My other half has been type 1 since her teens (her father was also type 1) and has evolved through myriad testing machines and syringes etc to using a pump- it appears to be easier to control the highs and lows compared with injections, the theory I believe being the stability of blood sugars due to better control being better for reducing the risks of type 1 side effects in later life, the only downsides seem to be it sometimes beeps like R2D2, scanners at airports are a no no (convincing customs officers is time consuming) and we have to take out insurance for it as a distinct insured risk on the house insurance given its replacement cost.

I've been using a pump for >15 years, and have recently started with the Freestyle Libre for monitoring.

Of course, because the pump is programmed to change basal depending on time of day and contingent on at least a reasonably steady diet, it doesn't help with unexpected delays.

I'm sure part of what they are celebrating is that you can't beat them anymore.

When I worked in London, one of the firm's clients was based in Notting Hill. They got a bill every year to pay for plywood boarding to cover up the ground floor windows for when the carnival was in town.

My old house / home office was in the middle of a town fair which happened one a year. After the second year of grimacing, I just didn't bother working in the afternoon of those 2 days a year, and made sure I was around to take the kids when they got home from school. [It ran on a Monday and Tuesday, not the weekend]

It was a lot more fun riding the waltzer than listening to others do it!

Noise cancelling headphones? I have my phone diverted to my mobile that is playing Spotify on the office WiFi through headphones, but the mobile will alert me to a call. It also helps with inane chatter in the office . Sorted :)

The headphones help the noise Paul, but dont help the road cordons. I use Bose headphones when working from home as the children of one of my neighbours are horrendous banshees, plus Im convinced that the rest of my neighbours take it it turns to do they DIY just to wind me up.

Manchester City Council at their best, closing half of the city and not giving a damn about the folk that have to get to Piccadilly, Ste!

You should try working near Spinningfields/Deansgate when they close it and put the mammoth metal barriers up. Farce!

C'mon, you have little to grouse over re closures, try living in party town Edinburgh.

Festival/Fringe in full swing (am actually going to something on Sunday for a change), so avoid travelling across town all month, come December/January they shut lots of bits of the centre making trip on New Year's Day to my Mother in Law a very circular route out of Edinburgh and a circle out East and then back West, and I believe Tram Build 2 will likely soon start when they dig up most of Leith (again) and then spend 2-3 times the original budget- on the plus side this time it is coming along nearly to Newhaven so I will be able to stroll down if I want to use it however catch is regular 11 bus service already stops 100 metres from my front door and will overall work out faster so no real benefit.

And I have not even got started on the potholes which are everywhere as the money to fix them has been diverted to the bl**dy trams.

Ok you have trumped me there, although I reckon you cannot possibly have as many potholes as the villages around Stockport. You could blindfold me and drive from anywhere in the UK and I will know the second I hit Stockport as the car lurches from one hole to another and it suddenly needs new coil springs.

Oh the joy of trams. Take twice as long as the old trains, cost twice as much to travel on one, communicate even less than the rail companies when there is a problem and encounter 5 x as many problems as the trains. Bring back the trains.....who would have thought I would ever say that after 15 years travelling on them.

There has to be a conspiracy between Kwik Fit and Edinburgh Council. I am convinced we are now getting potholes on the reverse side of speed bumps!!!

My wife has one of these Fiat 500 things which we bought new in 2009. (Cute looking, poorly engineered- do I mean the car or my wife?) After 12,000 miles we had to replace the rear suspension, it was again replaced at about 27,000 miles and as we have now reached about 35,000 miles it cannot be long until another set will be needed. (we have also changed the front set once during this period)

As it goes in for its MOT on Friday maybe there will be a third replacement needed in ten years/35,000 miles- a testament to the care taken over Edinburgh road surfaces.

maybe it was because they were oppressed by almost everyone for so long, we're all different we're all the same. I'm checking out for 3 weeks off to Mykonos.

I long for the day when we don't 'need' to have events such as Gay Pride for the simple reason that we as a society will have moved forward to the point when people are accepted for who they are and not their sexuality, religion or beliefs.

In the utopian future, we will have festivals and/or celebrations to celebrate 2 weeks next Tuesday because why not...

(I mean no disrespect to anyone for the above comments).

People always come up and tell me I make them laugh.

Usually before I open my mouth to speak.
