Annual Tax Summary 2016/17- confusion

Tax charged per annual summary for Scottish Income tax doesnt make sense

Not for a client so dont have agent authorisation in place

Individuals tas summary for 2016/17 shows the following

Taxable Income £19866

Allowance £11060

Taxable £8806

Basic rate tax £1761

Total Income Tax £2681

"This includes Scottish Income Tax of £880.50"

Surely total income tax should only be £1761 ?

Where are you getting those details from if you can't see the actual summary?

In 2016/17, the Income Tax paid by a Scottish tax payer was paid to HMRC with half of the Income Tax being paid to the Scottish Government. So the tax summary showing the basic rate tax correctly of £1761, half of which was paid to the Scottish Government (£880.50).

Total income tax of £2681 is incorrect so client should query with HMRC unless the tax summary has been misinterpreted?

Does the total figure include National Insurance perhaps?

I can see the summary - it was given to me by the individuals IFA who queried it with me

Doesnt include national insurance - the summary to me erroneously adds the half scottish tax to the total to give a figure thats 1.5 times what it should be

If this has happened once I expect its on other annual summaries as well
