Any way to get a copy of a very old self-filed SA?

Client self-filed online in the early 2010s - any chance?

Didn't find your answer?

Client has a complex claim against a third party and it would be informed by the contents of the 2013 SA return which they self-filed online, but of which alas they did not keep a copy.

If client writes to HMRC will they (eventually) send it?

They certainly can do.

Whether they will do is another matter.

If they have no joy they could always consider a subject access request although I don't know how this is presented.

I presume they have checked their Self Assessment or Personal Tax Account on gov.uk to see if the return can be viewed there?

That part of the SA menu always looks to me only to display the most recent 3 years, unless I'm looking in the wrong place?

Have just checked my business tax account and if you delve deep enough you can see which returns have been filed (mine go back well before 2012/13) but the option to actually view the return is more limited so that rules this option out sadly.

Electonic stuff is saved for ever
Never deleted
But this is really down to whether HMRC can be bothered to be helpful.
All accountants could get it from their own records
A bit presumptive, but I can and asume others could.
But Client relied upon himself and as such had a rubbish accountant.
Completely reliant on the goodwill of HMRC

I have phoned HMRC before & received copies of old tax returns quite quickly.

Me too - recently asked for 2007/08 to 2016/17 (by phone) and they even sent them to me rather than the client.

Thank you all so much. Look at me, all conditioned to think that there's no point calling HMRC about anything any more... ::))

If you're the appointed agent talk to the agents's hotline (well warmish). They'll arrange for it to be sent

Thought about this last night

I can view print or save a tax return submitted by client through his GG through the normal agent portal
Just checked a client that did it last year

Tax return options ( third one down below "your current client")
select year
Boxes show up to either ammend or view

It doesn't work for me more than 3 years back? I see all the years, but no returns longer than 3 years back.
