HMRC SA Statements Mixed Up

Didn't find your answer?

Search AccountingWEB

On all the HMRC statements for the 31 July payments the entries are all the wrong way round - the "Tax Due" column lists the client's payments while the "Credits" column shows the amounts to be paid.

Just a bit weird.....

Don't worry. One of the statements we received said "Dec'd" after the name. Turns out the senior partner had spoken to the person earlier that day and he's not a medium as far as I know!

We had one the same and I had spoken to the client that morning. When I phoned HMRC they didn't seem that bothered. I think the client would be though. Refused to pass it on and asked them to reissue.

You may be making a rod for your own back there.

No, just a bit more of HMRC displaying their incompetence at even getting the basics right.

At least they are sending out statements and payslips again. The HMRC belief that everyone would remember to pay their tax and do it online, and thus statements were not required, was a bit arrogant. Hopefully this time I will not be inundated with people asking me about what tax they have to pay and how to pay it and HMRC will get their money in much quicker.

I assumed it was to encourage people to pay late so that HMRC could charge interest.
