Anyone had a HSE Covid spot check?

Didn't think it gave you spots but they want to check mine!

Didn't find your answer?

Anyone had one of these?

I had a voicemail from HSE which from this I take to be genuine:
https://www.hse.gov.uk/coronavirus/regulating-health-and-safety/spot-ins...

The Health and Safety Executive is continuing to carry out spot checks and inspections by calling, visiting and inspecting all types of businesses in most areas in England to ensure they are working safely since most coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions were removed on 19 July 2021.

They are more than welcome to visit my virtual office via Zoom to check we are compliant, should I wear a mask?

One of my car repair clients had them turn up (they come in pairs usually). They walked past the ‘please wait here’ and ‘staff only beyond here’ notices, right into the mechanic’s main work area.
He bawled them out for being in an unsafe space and made them go outside whilst they stated the reason for their visit. He then refused them entry altogether under grounds that they had disregarded his safety signage so were clearly under qualified to do their job.
The suggested return visit has not yet materialised.

Garages are used to pairs, when one brake pad needs done they tell you to do both, one shock absorber you do both, headlights and bulbs the same, if garages themselves work in pairs and Noah did similar why should HMG not come in two by two.

brake pads come in pairs - per wheel - they tell you to do both WHEELS because the other wheel's brake pads (plural) are invariably worn down too, and would need replacing before the (new) pads on the first wheel did: in 3/4 years time.

Zeez - you would think accountants knew this stuff!

One of my garage clients had a call, well several calls with receptionist thinking it was just another spammy few days. I pointed out, when asked about it, that they can verify these calls are genuine and the HSE website explains how, or perhaps it was the IGA who put the information out there. * Once they jumped through that hoop they accepted the call. Just a pile of questions about ventilation, signage, handwashing etc, all of which was easy for them to respond to.

* Get a reference number from caller, ring HSE independently from the number on their website and someone can verify that call reference number.

I was under the impression Boris had thrown such caution to the wind, by abandoning all such Covid-related restrictions. My local supermarket no longer has handwash and only insists on masks if you're really ugly.

Boris may have thrown such caution to the wind, but one result is near open warfare just round the corner from me ... where the local Co-op is only a door away from my local Pharmacist.
The former has plastered their plate-glass frontage with signs saying "You are welcome to wear a mask in here" ... and the Pharmacist, who is almost literally foaming at the mouth, keeps sticking signs over those with slogans like "Wanna die?" and other choice slogans!
He's probably gonna end up in trouble, but he has a point in a London borough where over 4 in 10 adults have STILL not had even a single vax jab ... and, despite TfL rules (endorsed by the Mayor), fewer than 1 in 3 passengers wear a mask on buses (with only a slightly better %age on the tube).

The pharmacist might have a large stock of masks to shift!

I doubt we'll ever fully vaccinate your remaining 4 in 10 adults. Many of us - myself included -are not very far away from the six month anniversary of their second jab, and can expect to be recalled for a booster ahead of the reticent.

Maybe they work in the twilight zone. I wasnt party to the call, just told about it afterwards. Laugh is if they could see the place they wouldnt be asking about ventilation anyway, the door on the place is the size of one that is on a Nasa hangar and its freezing in there most of the time, including in the height of summer.

I think they should have asked how many covid sceptics there are in the building and why. Some crazy stories from one raving bonkers member of staff, as well as the usual microsoft chips have been injected into the rest of us, Michelle Obama is really a man and Jacko is still alive.

There's always one crazy-loco sceptic!

Mrs I'msorry doesn't believe Oswald shot JFK, and lately has expressed opinions that the moon landings took place in a Hollywood studio.

Maybe these callers are covertly checking out the workforce at firms still claiming CJRS!

We have had 2 visits from One Covid Policeman. Insisted on going thru it all with husbands secretary the only one in office. Despite her saying he should return when the owner was there. Picked and picked every fine detail. Was quite aggressive. Said he “ would return”. But it was always without appointment. It’s amazing where the money comes for this. Office of large premises , separate rooms, only one or two in together . Only 4 staff anyway.
And return he did. Again prattled on re sanitisers. We now have paper towels and sanitisers and gels to last a lifetime. Gave up on disposable cups. And this is during the current regs.

And was he perchance selling paper towels and sanitisers and gels?

In all seriousness really don't understand any of this. On Sky News Channel there are regular flashes on lead-ins to advert breaks stating that all restrictions have been lifted. I'm not saying I agree with that - in fact I think its rather reckless of Boris and his cronies - but the point is if restrictions have been lifted then how on earth are Covid inspectors enforcing their nonsense?

They're just helping spread Covid! Years ago I remember hearing of a health and safety inspector who called at a business to serve a closure notice, whereupon the aggrieved owner shot him stone dead. Way to go!

Maybe not spots, but is the wedding in Trinidad still on, or will you just go anyway for the holiday?
