Just read the guidance on the HMRC website. Everything will be fine and dandy, and you'll pay exactly what it's worth.

You may find them on Ebay for a fraction of the price but they won't be the latest editions. It's probably worth paying the full £45.

I believe the May16 and Nov16 exams are based on 2016-17 tax year, so if you were to sit the November exams, you could try going on the ATT forum, and seeing if any successful May students will sell you their study books.

He would need to buy a Tardis for that to work. :)

Yes, it is now hellishly expensive since Tolley got the contract for training online. I think it's outrageous that you can no longer have the option to just buy the manuals and teach yourself as I once did.

I was hoping to buy the materials and then study at home and just sit the exams.

Can this not be done?
Thanks

I paid for the VAT course material about a year ago, and I was told then that the only provider was Tolley's and try as I might I could not find a materials only option.
Maybe Tolley's have relented since then, but I would be surprised as I don't regard them as a particularly caring organisation!

@Confused - feel your pain - having never worked anywhere that paid for any training (both CIMA and ATT) - it's tough when you are paying it all yourself,.

EDIT - Just looked at Tolley website - it seems you do have the option just to purchase study materials without courses. Give them a call and see what they say.

I will give them a ring tomorrow thanks.

It's just expensive when doing it all on your own plus with normal everyday bills.

I can see why some people just stop after the initial training

Buying study material that isn't suitable may result in you failing exams, and having to pay for resits and material that is suitable.
Buy cheap, pay twice.

Hi,
I learnt by buying the year old books from ebay for a few quid and studying from these, I'd say 95% of the material was the same and I looked up new stuff online.

Of course it's better to have the current material but needs must if you don't have the money at the time

Thanks for all the responses

You can still buy the books and teach yourself and sit the exams

I did forget to ask though the Tolley books which looks like I will have to get does anyone know when they run to, is it the tax years? In which am I better off waiting a couple of months to buy the books?

Thanks
