Auto-issued with EORI number but don't need it

Auto-issued with EORI after buying stationery from EU in 2018. Can I deregister or opt out?

Didn't find your answer?

Excuse the complete ignorance here but I do not usually deal with international businesses.

I have today received a letter from HMRC saying I traded with the EU in 2018 and so they have issued a EORI number.

The 'trading' consists of max £300 worth of printer ink per year from a German based website as it was cheaper.  I would rather not buy from them again rather than have to complete any customs forms etc.

Does the simple act of having an EORI no obligate me to complete any regular customs forms?  Can I deregister?

Sorry these are so basic but I can't find the answer.

Every VAT registered trader who doesn't already have an EORI is being issued with one currently - part of the Brexit preparations.
You are safe just to ignore it, pending what happens post Brexit.
