Auto populate the employment pages on a tax return

Fetch function on taxcalc no longer seems to work

Didn't find your answer?

Last year using Taxcalc we were able to populate the employment pages for clients but this year it doesnt seem to want to get the information. Does anyone know of a way to fix this or a piece of software that will let us access the clients employment history? I know the information is there because I checked my wifes tax account & then tried fetch but it still didnt work.

See previous threads. Wait until later in the year.

It seems to work for a handful of clients only. Generally is as pants as ever.

Thanks both. Last year it seemed to work really well. I never will understand why accountants cant have access to the clients portal. It would make life much easier.

If HMRC don't have the data yet, it won't appear on the client portal either.

I agree. What's RTI for if it's not for HMRC to have the data instantly ?

It should be available as soon as the final end of year return is sent by the employer.

@lion, you would have thought if HMRC could see it, we should be able to see it.

But for some reason it has to be "validated" by some mystical process, and much it of never seems to appear at all, even in late Jan.

If it actually worked properly it would be a really good tool, I have several tax returns on my desk i could finish right now where i am waiting for a P6o or a P11D.

Validated my backside !

How ? Somebody going round to the employer's office to check the payroll against the bank statements ?

I'll grant you they could check that the PAYE is paid over but it seems an awful long delay in making the information available.

Out of interest where is the blasted taxcalc button anyway? Been looking but can't find it. Probably obvious.

Switch to Simplestep then click setup return on the left. A box appear at the bottom that says fetch taxpayer data. It is on there

Do we not have to wait until the annual PAYE reconciliation process has taken place first? Then the APIs are made available. Using the "fetch" facility is useless if you want to file a tax return earlier in the year.

EDIT: not a criticism of Taxcalc, more of HMRC being slow. What's the point of RTI if the information isn't available promptly? And by promptly, I mean within 6 months!!

I seem to be getting far more details pulled through (using BTC) this week than earlier 2020 returns prepared.
Maybe I was just lucky with the ones I was preparing but think I got details in the majority (still not 100%) of cases.
