We have a new starter, only expected to be with us for a few weeks, a few days per week - he also has another job.
For our full time permanent staff, we have applied autoenrolment from the first pay day.
Is it permissible to defer/postpone (or whatever the language is) contributions for this new starter for a few months - thereby avoiding the need to enrol him in the scheme for the sake of a few pounds contributions - or do we have to adopt the same starting point for every employee.
Thanks,

With nest you can postpone assesment for auto enrolment up to a maximum of 3 months. I'm sure it's not just nest but for all enrolment pensions.
It's something we do to all new starters and 3 months is also convinient as it's the same length as our probation period.
You can apply postponement for up to 3 months, but you will still be required to give the employee a statutory letter setting out their right to request to join/opt-in to your scheme.
More information on this can be found on TPR website:
"One of the main reasons your client might decide to postpone is if they have new temporary or short-term staff who they know will stop working for them within three months".

I always postpone all new starters for 3 months but, as stated before, you must issue the standard letters re opting in earlier etc. We certainly have a few that elect to do so.
