Have updated to v7.0 as directed by Avalara but system does not retrieve obligations from HMRC, although does retrieve liabilities and payments so not a fundamental connection problem I don't think. V7.0 is relatively new first available for 2020 Q2 returns so may be a software glitch. Anybody having similar problems or a solution?
Have tried disabling firewall, deleting all previous versions from system and reloading from scratch - all other functionality works as previously just not ability to retrieve obligations and therefore select and make VAT returns - HMRC system reports no problems and obligations are recorded when entering directly through HMRC portal - just no scope to make returns anyother way since making tax digital
Thanks in advance
Peter

Ive never heard of it till today. They seem to have a multi territory product here. Are you filing for one or many companies using spreadsheets
The obligations API runs much the same as liabilities and payments. Hence it does not strike me that you can resolve this without help from Avalara.
I’ve got the same problem. However, I noted that I was unable to retrieve the current VAT obligation with my older version of Avalara. I thought maybe this was because I needed to upgrade to version 7, but this has made no difference. I too can retrieve previous entries, and can also see all obligations in HMRC’s website. I am hoping it’s a temporary glitch on HMRC’s side!
I’ve since discovered that mine was embarrassingly ‘operator error’. What I had failed to notice was that when I went to the MTD Filer tab in my spreadsheet, the cursor was quite a bit down the page and was on the Retrieve Liabilities section, which looks almost identical to the Retrieve Obligations section at the top of that page.....
Peter,
I have exactly the same issue, whilst I am able to retrieve my Liabilities and Payments under the updated v7.0 Avalara MTD excel addin, I am unable to retrieve my Obligations and therefore file a return. When I load the dates into the obligations section it returns a blank list.
I have also removed and reinstalled the software, in an effort to rectify but without success. Any advice on how to resolve this issue would be very much appreciated.
Regards
Andrew
Having raised a query with Avalara, they responded to confirm that the obligations would only be shown if the exact reporting dates are entered to the day (e.g. 01.07.20 -30.09.20). This resolved my issue and I was able to complete my Digital VAT return.
Hopefully this helps.
Regards
Andrew
I'm now having the same problem this quarter. I know the macro is enabled and running correctly. After entering the correct dates (1st Oct to 31st Dec), it brings up the line of text stating that it's outstanding but there is no Submit button at the bottom of the table.
Hi Peter.
Glad you found a way to get your return done. I deleted the MTD Filer tab in my spreadsheet and also deleted the MTD Filer file located in C:\Users\’UserName’\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\AddIns). I then reinstalled the MTD Filer in my spreadsheet and it fortunately worked. Just hope it still works in 3-months time.....
