Basic Payroll Tools

Using Basic Payroll tools on another computer.

Didn't find your answer?

Client company deals with own Payroll using HMRC Basic Payroll tools. Book-keeper furloughed. I have been asked to prepare payroll.

I can access clients payroll site but cannot find any information re staff.

I have downloaded HMRC software to my computer. Could anybody advise me how to proceed please. There is a backup in clients office but I have no access to this. I admit to being a complete idiot with these things and I am sure that there is a simple obvious solution but I have not found it. Many thanks for your help.

Hi Tosie

Do you do payrolls for other clients? If so, you should be able to do this on your normal payroll software, they would just need to be careful with YTD values when the bookkeeper is back.

Hello Martin Thank you but I cannot access the data. It seems to be that I would need the back up from client (which I cannot get ) and then load on to my computer but I am hoping that someone will have an alternative solution. Many thanks for advice.

I wouldn’t bother learning basic tools especially as you would need the data file.

If you really can’t access anything then you must have month 11 payslips so can’t you do a mid year start on your software and add the month 12 pay from the employer?

I'm afraid your asking for the impossible.

No data file just names and gross pay. You need a little more than that or you will find yourself in a lot of brown stuff.

No past tax stopped, no employee id, no payroll no for each employee.

You will likely be hearing for hmrc assuming 2nd employment and issuing all new tax codes to stop double tax.

You need that data, you can not do it without it. Its as simple as that. And that should be what you tell your boss.

So no one has a copy of last month’s payslips? Can’t you call up the employees and ask for their DOB and a copy of last month’s payslip? I would push it back to the employer or call the bookkeeper and come up with a solution.

Hello Matrix,
Thanks, I have asked client to do that. Only three employees so not a major problem. Seems to be only solution.
