Keytime
Well I dunno the history, but its a shame they didn't sort out your problems until now. It just reads as if you've sold out, now!

Retraction of comment regarding Keytime
I have removed my earlier post in which I had a dispute with Keytime as they have been in contact with me and offered a settlement regarding my dispute.

I would just like to point out that I did not post the comment to resolve my dispute. At the time I had serious doubts about the company, however they fact that they have contacted me to resolve the matter restores my faith in the company.

Andica! Highly Recommended!
I watch my costs closely, and use HMRC's free online software for individual tax returns, and purchased Andica for the partnership returns for which I'd missed the paper filing deadline. Andica suits me perfectly - very cheap (for the few filings I needed it for), very easy to use (I didn't need to bother reading the instructions, it was so straightforward), and online filing was smooth and fast.

Thank you for your help
Thank you for your kind help I have found your comments very helpful in narrowing my search for a tax package.

Regarding Keytime on the web site it seems o be aimed at small users up to 5 returns. Is there a web site for accountancy practice packages?

Seeking clarification
It's just been pointed out to me that the price quoted for Sage Instant Taxation in the Sage Shop starts from "£99 for 10 clients". It doesn't appear to go up to 200 clients and the price for a 100-client licence is £324+VAT.

This tempers my recommendation somewhat and contrasts with the company's marketing statements that present the application as "ideal for sole practitioners with up to 100 personal tax clients".

I'll raise a query with Sage Accountants Division to find out what price you could expect to pay to handle 200 clients and report back.

SAGE!!
From past bitter experiences i would steer clear of Sage ...as john points out the 200 clients has already become 100 - this is just one of the many dirty tricks they use to squeeze you for more money.

PTP is great ...exactly what you are looking for...cannot fault it ..other than the support line has become a little slower since Iris took it over.

Enter Sage Instant Taxation
It may be a somewhat surprising suggestion, but I've just had a peak at Sage Instant Taxation and it may well fit the bill.

There will be other, cheaper applications on the market, but if you work with a lot of Sage small business customers, you may be able to consider linking their accounts data to accounts production & tax applications. Should your practice grow and you need more power, there's also an upgrade path.

One oddity is that when I discussed it with the Sage Accountants Division executives recently, they talked about a 200-client threshold. Since then, the number for the £99 seems to have come down to 100. You may need to clarify/negotiate with them about that.

Good luck with your quest - and let us know what you choose.

Basic tax package
We use Keytime Tax 2008 - we find it fast, reliable (once we had learned how to use it) and very reasonably priced. I'm sure it would 'do a turn' for you.

If you want to chat about it, drop me an email via [email protected], check out our website at www.dpassociates.net so you can get a feel for whether we have a similar profile to yourselves as a practice, and I'll send you a mobile number, as I'm out of the office for 48 hours on business in London

Best wishes

Tax Assistant
I have been using Drummohr's Tax Assistant since I started my practice in 1998. It includes the capital allowance calculations and you can add other modules as and when you need them - Trusts, P11ds, CT. It includes individual, partnerships tax returns as standard as well as repayment claims. The partnership information can be pulled into the individual partner's tax return.

You can print to pdf and email returns to clients which was really useful this weekend!! It also generates a checklist based on what was on this year's returns which you can send out to clients for next year's tax returns.

It generates forms 64-8 and SA303, both of which can be saved as pdf's and it has a dividends database which is useful when your client only gives you half the information.

Updates can be downloaded straight from the website through an automatic update module.

I have found it painless over the last 10 years. It sounds as if it should be expensive, but I have found it to be good value over the years.

Keytime Tax Program
We have been using this program for last five years and have found it very user freindly, specially, after starting to use Keytime's own program. On line submission of SA for individuals and Partnerships are very easy.

We would recommend use of this program for the above services.

Taxcalc
Yes, I agree taxCalc is absolutely fine for what you want to do. I think you'll find the way everything is produced as a PDF, so making it very easy to email everything to your clients, and the clarity of the tax calculation summary and list of tax payments made/due is really good.

Pound for pound..

TaxCalc packs the biggest punch for a sole-practitioner.

Bear in mind that, unlike some of its counterparts, it doesn't do the CA comp for you but otherwise it's pretty robust.

Taxcalc
Cheap and easy to use, c£250.

As my practice is growing and I start to purchase more sophisticated software for accounts production, business tax, time & fees etc. I'll be keeping taxcalc for my personal tax stuff certainly.
