Black Friday

Spam and more spam

Didn't find your answer?

Trying to get on with my work and I keep getting emails from financial organisations, insurers etc, even ICAEW offering 20% off some really boring CPD courses you could not pay me to attend.

Tempted to just unsubscribe since I don't remember signing up to be spammed by all these organisations.  So Black Friday has moved to eveyone now - anyone spamming their network with a special offer for accounting services?

Black Friday's nothing to do with us. It's an American thing connected to Thanksgiving. You may like to reply, pointing out that as a British person, you're not eligible.

On the other hand, Mrs Lion needs no Black Friday excuse to spend money, unfortunately.

It is fine as long as she buys the Lion's share for you.

Sadly, she just buys things we don't need.

My philosophy has always been the less I spend, the less I need to earn and the less I need to work.

I thought that Thanksgiving was always the last Thursday in November, but that would be next Thursday, 30th November, not yesterday.

Perhaps the date is actually driven by Black Friday always having to be the last Friday in November.

Its the fourth Thursday - not always the same as the last Thursday.

Apparently there's some dichotomy of opinion even in the US. But I always understood it to be the fourth Thursday.

An amazing coincidence that I am having to work from home as my daughter is off today and Monday for "teacher training" (AKA Christmas Shopping as teachers couldn't possibly fit that in within their 3 month holidays)

My inbox has been full with offers today to the point I have just closed down my email so I can get on with it.

The problem is little legs also seems to have access to an equal amount of black friday offers and I am coming under pressure to cough for a second pair of Ugg boots as the brown ones she got 2 weeks ago don't go with everything.

My argument that brown shoes go with everything which is why I only buy brown shoes is wearing thin. I was going to put the boat out and take her for lunch somewhere as we don't get the opportunity to this sort of thing, but suspect today is going to cost me more than a cake and sandwich.

Damn you yanks and your fancy pre Christmas sales and don't get me started on those pesky teachers.

Make her earn the money, housework is fine, though depending on age you often end up doing it again yourself after they go to bed.

No - that's no good.

It's spending on things we neither want nor need that I object to.

The less money she has, the less she spends.
