The intelligence of some of the enquiries, over the last few months, has been astounding.
John (the Editor) and the publishing team feed the members on a need to know basis, as regards further "improvements". It shows little or no respect for those contributors who've been around for many years.
Darn it, the revisions have been ongoing since 3rd May and, in the age of digital technology, that approach is remarkably naive, even being kind.
This style of thread crops up once a fortnight and, until and unless there is some meaningful dialogue, between the editorial team and the membership I can only see more and more people like you and myself, moving on.
I'm more and more convinced that Aweb really couldn't give a damn, one way or another.
Some facts;
Mr Mischief last contributed 4th October. Steve Kesby last contributed 30th September. Ben Smith (website publisher) last updated the members on 19th August.
Says it all really, just from three examples.
And here was me thinking you were summing up the whole of accountancy - (and I was about to agree).
I must admit the questions on AA haven't been particularly interesting lately.
I am trying to remain interested in the whole MTD debacle, but sitting where I do in industry it is of limited concern to me.
Still loyal to the cause and logging in each day though..
Nope.
Mind you I am encouraged by the number of [***] poor 'accountants' who are posting ridiculous questions on here which demonstrates their complete lack of basic knowledge.
It means:
1. I must be better that I thought I was, and
2. There's a load more work for me to pick up from said 'accountants'.
So I'll probably keep popping in when my confidence needs a boost (and I need a good laugh).
Yes indeed. I am beginning to suspect that the really intelligent Accountants don't even look at AWEB, let alone contribute.
There are no alternatives and that is sad.
I now visit mostly to tell posters how daft their questions are or generally cause offence in one way or another.
I would like to be contributing to interesting threads, but that does not appear to be an option these days :(
most AA's don't go beyond 6 or 7 responses....gone are the days when they would run to 20+ (or significantly more) on technical queries where a simple issue (on the face of it) raises a cross section of constructive opinion (if you now what I mean).
These have been replaced by even more questions raised by non accountants (and those with no idea) who expect an answer (having done little/no research) and when provided with 'ask your accountant' take offence.

I don't think we say 'lame' anymore, I think it is offensive to injured animals or something?
I will post the odd question but I find that the standard of responses are a lot worse than they used to be. The vast majority of the many useful contributors hardly bother to come on here and who can blame them?
Agree nothing much happening here or on UK businessforums. One thing that bugs me and I’ve seen a lot of comments on it. Those stupid buttons at the end of the discussions saying view all replies. I know it’s just one click but it does annoy me. Had a look around accountancy age too but nothing much there. I sincerely hope cheeky isn’t banned. He/she is responsible for many of my lol moments.
He's been missing for about a week. It's another feature of Aweb, where "offenders" are put in a type of detention and, PNL's been there too, on a number of occasions!
They (Aweb) seem to keep them off the runway for a given period and then, I imagine they tell them they can return. Wow, respect!
Cheeses - I'd be tempted to tell Aweb where to shove it.
Still, the powers that be, seem to think they have it all under control.
Without some of the "old school" on here I really wouldn't hang around.
Same here - I still keep a weathered eye to see if it improves but, as my other life is now less boring than my life on here, I tend only to stay for a couple of mins.
I don't think there's been any changes to the posts that do appear, it's probably more a case of many experienced old hands not bothering to get involved any more?
The figures are very revealing and the decline in popularity definitely coincides with the new 'mobile phone' format of the site that is so much loved by the kids, but is completely wrong for any serious Accountancy website.
Why would a company deliberately downgrade its market share just to be fashionable ...
I said "Why would a company deliberately downgrade its market share just to be fashionable ..."
Is anyone there?
Nod three times if I am getting through to anyone.
Hello ...
Anyone ....
That Alexa graph paints a poor picture; one that we have all been anticipating since May 3rd.
The webmasters of this site should be embarrassed beyond belief. Problem is, they are not, or at least they make out they're not!
It's not nice to admit you were wrong, but for heaven's sake, surely it's time to draw a line and scrap the ridiculous website in favour of its' former self!
From Alexa:
How fast does accountingweb.co.uk load?
Very Slow (4.176 Seconds), 89% of sites are faster.
I'll second that!
Ditto @Mr Hobbit, I can't resist a quick browse despite the fact that that the new site is rubbish.
