Bright Tax

Anyone successfully using Bright Tax

Didn't find your answer?

Hi

Having been forced to move from Taxfiler (after reading all the comments on here not wanting to go to Iris) - I decided to go with BrightTax - in the hope that it will soon integrate with Bright Manager (that I am already using).

I have found it completely unusable so far - full of bugs (previous calls with support admit the problems I was having are with the software not me the user) - issues so far:

unable to finalise FRS105 Micro accounts (this has now been fixed after I pointed it out)

unable to 'collapse' blank notes in FRS105 micro accounts - so it's printing all the blank notes (can't send to clients for signing with pages of blank notes in - wasn't fixed last week when I tried again)

unable to attach sole trader accounts to their tax returns (I am not sure if this has been fixed yet or not)

now I am trying the sole trader accounts - when I add journals to the ETB - adding an additional journal duplicates all the previous ones - so it changes the figures in the ETB multiple times - and even when I delete the original journal the copies are still there and I can't get rid of them. (so journal 1 of £200 may be duplicated say 5 times to give an adjustment of £1000)

I am waiting for support to get back to me..... again.... but am rapidly losing patience - is anyone else actually using it sucessfully? if so how?

From the webinars I watched, still a bit too limited for my needs so still very happy with TaxCalc

Yeah TaxCalc was a very close second - I was seduced by the prospect of integration.....

Why? Was Brightpay ever mentioned on here as an alternative?

Just go with TaxCalc

I was already using Bright Manager and really like it - so hoping to integrate with the accounts and tax software too…

Price wise they were comparable, so was looking to streamline my processes.

Just wondering if anyone else out there is using it successfully….

I don't use Bright Tax for accounts but do use it for personal tax returns and MTD VAT submission. Not had any real issues with those bits.

thanks - support said most people were using it for MTD VAT and had no issues - I think that's been going longer than the other modules.

I think the accounts and tax modules are new - I just can't believe they have released it for sale - I was hoping someone on here would be using it and be able to give me some hope that I've just been unlucky with the bugs I have come across and the rest of it works fine.....

So do you only do tax returns? Not accounts to attach to it? I am just trying a stand alone tax return and to be fair haven't yet come across any issues... maybe it's just the accounts modules that are not fully functioning....

I am in similar situation, Taxfiler runs out in October, caught between a hefty price increase if I move or the thing not working and no support if I stay.

We are also with Brightpay and Bright Manager so it would have been nice if "Bright" offered a discount to add on what used to be BTC but is now Bright but sadly no.

I thought BTC was supposed to be good?

That's what 'exiting' to the money-men will do ... knowledge dissipates, support quality drops (no longer the core product), software maintenance loses its priority and then development becomes about 'integration' (not useful new features).

Not saying that's the case here, but they'd be bucking the trend if not.

Bright are owned by HG Capital so it's going to be bug-ridden. Same behemoth as behind IRIS and just keep buying out good software (Bright bought BTC Software) and scr£wing it up
EDIT - the word asterisked out by the censors is only the same word to describe what happens re. the turning action when you use a screwdriver. Ridiculous

So what is it with [***] (D i n k s) - on a different thread - where the software was happy with the word as a Username, but asterisked it out when Lion posted a reply (as in 'Replying to ****')?
I'm not hip to all the latest street slang, but I can't even find out via Google why the word might be considered offensive (or indeed if it has *any* meaning)!

I am in the same situation as I have been with Taxfiler , I already use Bright Manager and Bright Tax would have been my preferred choice but now not sure about what to do now. I will be interested to know more about Xero Tax from those who are using Xero.

We have recently switched from TaxCalc to Bright Tax and were also seduced by the integration with Bright Manager. Fortunately my TaxCalc subscription doesn't expire until Aug 24, so I am now about to cancel the Bright Tax one as I've lost the will to live with it. I haven't attempted self assessment yet, but Limited Companies have been a nightmare, with it taking me all day to complete a dormant set of accounts, which would take 10 mins on TaxCalc. I know we need to learn the software, but so much of it requires manual input compared to TaxCalc, certainly more than initially thought when doing the trial. The accounts do not look as professional compared to TaxCalc either. Bright Tax still have a lot to do!

interesting to know I'm not the only one.... but frustrating at the same time.... really hope they get their act together.... TaxCalc looking better all the time..... Stand alone self assessment in BrightTax seems ok - but most of my clients are Limited companies or sole traders.... so need the accounts sections to be viable......
