I met with a potential yesterday. Ltd company - he was at pains to tell me it was very small!
I suggested salary for him and his wife of 8Kish and he said he didn't to as that would effect his entitlement to jobseekers, housing benefit and council tax benefit.
(plus WTC and CTC - but I know he can claim them).
He has been told by HMRC that as long as he works less than 16hrs a week then he can continue to claim all the above stuff?
Surely that's a dodge too far? How does one police how many hrs a director works in their own company.
As it was my special "fat persons/benefit claimer" quote was too high as he was told ltd co accounts and TRs would be £500.
Can he claim jobseekers etc

On reflection, it does seem like rather a good idea.

I don't know if there is any reason why a director cannot get those benefits on the basis that he only works 16 hours per week.
It might be difficult to police but the sales/profits in the annual accounts may give a clue one way or another.
Regarding the "fat" issue, I used to work with someone from some African country (can't remember which one!) and he said in that country the wealth of an individual is determined by the size of his neck!! I don't if he was just winding me up ... I don't think so!
WTC and Jobseeekers?
Not sure how he could claim both - if Jobseeker's need less than 16 hours, surely WTC needs more? You can't be "actively seeking work" as well as "in full time employment" But then again......
I would have a problem with that client.
Either he is job seeking or he is trying to build a company. The limited hours that an individual can work while claiming JSA is to not put people off from taking some work to keep skills up etc while looking for an appropriate position (not to tide them over while they build a business).
I would have quoted him two grand, grassed him up to the benefits office and told him he couldn't claim for pies through his company.
