Can anybody offer advice on finding a part timer ?

Our payroll clerk has left.

Didn't find your answer?

We are based in North London and our part time payroll person has left us, so we urgently need an experienced person to come in for abut 6 days per month to help us (Iris payroll). We have tried Gumtree already with not too much success, so has anybody got any other recommendations/advice ?

I have found most of my employees through Facebook and personal recommendations. Might be worth paying for an ad?
We outsource to AFH payroll and they look after other accountants so it might be worth looking at that as an option.

Worth costing outsourcing, so no recruitment costs/time spent or false starts. It may look pricey, but if you factor in, no holiday, sick, maternity/paternity pay, no holiday, sickness or maternity cover required, no CPB/update training, no need for payroll software. No ers NI or auto enrolment pension issues. It can look like a bargain.

Software costs were the final nail for me and didn't want to have to deal with AE!

Have you considered sites directed at Mums? There are some very talented and experienced Mums out there looking for part-time/flexible work. We've used these sites in the past with some success.

Yes, they should be forced to take those websites down.

Nothing wrong with the website. It's the recruitment process that is flawed.

We've tended to use Indeed for hires. Admittedly full time trainees rather than part time experienced folk...but can't see that'd make it less valid.

I would highly recommend looking as outsourcing for the reasons above.
The market is extremely competitive which is fantastic for you, the customer.

In terms of employees, we use Indeed, this is free however it may require more time to shift through all the applications you receive to find that gem you are looking for.
We recently recruited a part time member of staff in a small town and received around 500 applicants within two weeks, of those approx 10 had the qualifications/experience and we interviewed 3.

You are able to pass this to a recruitment company and go straight to interview however you pay a charge and not necessarily receive a higher calibre of candidate.

Hope this helped.

I'd recommend QXAS, the gentleman who deals with us is called Parag and is on 0175 669 9355. They have all the software, log in via VPN and do all the work remotely. SO so much easier than hiring etc.

6 days a month is low for a part timer esp one with the knowledge you require. Have you considered advertising in a school or parish magazine.

Outsourcising may work or even a payroll bureau

In your situation, would consider outsourcing also. AS Robins are near to you.

I think you can advertise at Bookkeepers.Network(bkn) or advertise on LinkedIn.
I know few other practice firms are also looking for part time accountants but can't find yet.

I am a very busy accountant and have a working relationship with an exceptional bookkeeping practice called Fineline Bookkeeping. I would say its worth contacting Ben Tyler there for a chat (01268 833070), you never know, it might be your answer.
