Can anyone suggest a solution?

VT blocks other programmes

Didn't find your answer?

I’ve been using VT for over 20 years, for myself and several clients. Recently, I found that, if a VT file is open, I can’t use any other programme. It’s particularly annoying when I want to copy from VT into a spreadsheet. I’ve tried uninstalling VT then installing on a different hard drive but the problem persists. I’ve asked VT if they’ve come across this problem but they seem as baffled as I am.

Has anyone else experienced this and, if so, were they able to resolve it and, especially, how.

I've never had that problem.
Have you changed your computer settings or had a computer upgrade of Windows 10 ??

Thanks. Windows updates automatically so I'm bound to have had updates. No other changes made.

The reason I asked is that following a recent Windows update my computer started doing funny things. I closed it down completely and it sorted the problems

Can you open more than one program at a time without VT running? If yes, can you see what cpu and memory VT is using?

Thanks. I can open several programmes when VT isn't running but opening VT prevents access to them, including Task Manager so I can't see CPU usage.

Have you tried opening Task Manager before opening VT, then reducing the size of the VT window so you can see task manager?

What exactly happens when you try to open another program?

Nothing! I have to close VT to "unfreeze".

Was there a windows update just prior to when this started happening?

Either way I would stop the updates happening automatically, try a system restore to before the last update/when all was ok, see if it's all working as it should, run the updates (one at a time) and see if it is these that are causing a problem.

I've known part of a multiple windows update cause an issue in the past, but to Sage and not VT. Was fortunately a non critical update so just put a stop to that one! But I wouldnt recommend you do that last part unless you check it out with someone more IT savvy.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm going to have to call on my "computer doctor". I was hoping that someone else had been similarly affected and would be able to advise how it had been corrected.

When updating a set of accounts imported from VT today, I was prompted to check if there was an update. Yes, there was so I installed it and, surprisingly, VT is now behaving as it always used to. Several programs open and useable while VT is running.
