You may be able to use Brightpay for free, don't use Basic Tools.

I took a look at Brightpay and like it, so I am going to go with them. I need to put in NI information from P45 for a new employee but the P45 doesn't have previous NI figures on it like it does the Gross and Tax paid. How do I work out these figures because Brightpay won't let me save employee without them.

Can you enter it as zero or put in a nominal amount like £0.01? You can't work out NI on previous pay as it depends on what was paid each payday.

I would put in the year to date figures then just run the current payroll.

Well good luck with Basic Tools. Rumour has it it may be withdrawn. In which case I go with Brightpay. Trust you don't have to do AE as Basic Tools doesn't cater for it and you have to do it manually

Why oh why basic tools? It’s awful! I hate it. I'm still trying to get some clients off it.
