Can outdoor wear be deemed protective?

Can outdoor wear be deemed protective?

Didn't find your answer?

I am a small accountant from the North of Scotland and as a result I have a handful of clients who work outdoors carrying out things like Bat Surveys through the night, monitoring of fish in river beads, tree surgeons etc.

My question is regarding the clothing they are required to carry out their jobs. As you would expect they are trying to claim a number of items such as waterproof trousers, thick waterproof ski type jackets, walking boots etc.

To me this is not typical everyday wear (they are required to wear it all day not just too and from work) and on the whole would not be worn privately by my clients.

They require protection against the elements - it would not be sufficient to carry out this work in your jeans and jumper etc.

Can anyone provide me with any experience on how the tax man would view this?

Thank you
