capitulating on Excaliber?

capitulating on Excaliber?

Didn't find your answer?

We have a new client that has received a bill from HMRC regarding Premier Strategies tax scheme Excalibur.

Client has asked us whether they should pay up? Another independent firm of accountants promoted the scheme and no doubt received a commission...

I don't feel we can advise on the merits of payment, but wonder what your views are vis-a-vis the other accountants, or whether to defend?

Thanks

What type of bill?

An APN?

Support Group

There is an association of Excalibur investors which are taking this scheme to Tribunal rather than capitulating at the moment.

I can supply contact details ( I have a client who has joined) if it is of interest

Paula

Hi Paula,

I have just come across this post and have a client in a similar position as the original poster. Would you be able to let me have details of the association of investors please?

Regards

Darren

It is not a APN. Just an invitation to pay on basis that scheme doesn't work. Client worried about penalties much further down the line. My view was that as the scheme was promoted be Tenon then it must have been popular. Hence is there any consensus on a way forward.

Three choices as I see it

1)  Pay up

2) Fight HMRC on your own

3) Join the Excalibur Association which will fight the case for you.

HMRC will try to pressurise taxpayers, particuarly if they find out that they are not supported.  The purpose of many of their letters is to spread fear, uncertainty and doubt.  I'd suggest that you make contact with the Excalibur Support Group so that you can learn their current view on things - it's actually quite positive.
