Car Capital Allowance/Mileage not claimed by landlord

Car Capital Allowance/Mileage not claimed by...

Didn't find your answer?

Hi Everyone,

I have a potential client who hasn't been claiming mileage allowance or any Capital Allowance for use of his private car for his property business (professional landlord owning BTL properties), is he able to make a retrospective claim for previous years in his 2013/14 return when its due.

He has kept records but never thought he could claim the cost!

Thanks

Smithie

How many years?

Presumably you/he could amend 11/12 and possibly 10/11 if still in time and possibly the years before that by Overpayment Relief

Note that the Business Brief does include the paragraph:

"Claims cannot be made in self-assessment returns and will not be accepted if they are made on an SA return form (SA100) or equivalent, such as the Trust and Estate Tax Return SA900 or company tax return (CT600). "
