Car list price for P11D

Car list price for P11D

Didn't find your answer?

Search AccountingWEB

I am currently completing a P11D for a client. The company purchased a Ford Fiesta Zetec at the start of the 2009/10 tax year for about £1,000 but the vehicle was first registered in 1999. How can I get the original list price? There is nothing on the registration document.

P11D list prices

I was looking around the other day when a client was unable to find the original paperwork.  He subsequently found it, but in the meantime I found a solution on good old "Parker's" website:  http://www.parkers.co.uk/company-cars/tax-calculator/

If you punch in the information it should give you an original list price for any age of car, together with the CO2 rating.  (Remember to add on any "optional extras", if these can be identified.

I don't know how accurate this is, and you're obviously better off with original documents from the client / seller but, failing that, this is a fall-back.

Just a point

On the basis the car is only worth £1,000 why is it in the company to the extent that it is creating a benefit in kind for the employee.

I suspect the list price is sufficent for the tax bill to match this or am I missing something.

Car

Yeah, it is a new client I have just taken on and I will be advising them to get the car out of the company.

PAYE visit

You wouldn't believe the tax inspector i've been recently dealing with during a client's PAYE compliance visit. They buy second hand cars, and have typically obtained e mails or similar from the dealership selling the cars (6 months old, or so) with details of original list prices. The inspector wasn't happy that this was accurate enough. He was happy enough with Parker's details, and FYI the Revenue use Glass's guide when they need to. As above, add in all the extras if you want to guarantee keeping HMRC happy.

P11D list price

You can also find original list prices, CO2 values and the cost of options on Comcar. Use the lower selector on http://comcar.co.uk/newcar/companycar/taxcalc/g1select.cfm for older cars.

Especially when it's probably of no relevance now. Did you bother to look at the date of this thread?
