Changing agent address, how easy was that?

Not!

Didn't find your answer?

So we had to move office at short notice due to issues with the landlord. On the list of those to inform, HMRC of course. And each service needs to be done separately:

Letter to Agent Maintainer office as a catch all
Corporation Tax - easy, becuase its the only one you can do online!
PAYE - write to HMRC listing every confirmed client
VAT - write to HMRC
Agent Services Account - a separate letter to the Agent Maintainer office
Other (such as ERS) - no idea, because they don't seem to have required an address when they were added to our HMRC services

Then wait as they are actioned one by one, and in the meantime have to explain when contacting HMRC that it might be one of two addresses. Meanwhile a tersely worded HMRC letter arrives, no doubt triggered  by the change or that we are supervised for AML by another body, to the effect that if we don't confirm various details our agent credentials our services could be suspended. We been an agent for over 10 years and they've not done any due diligence to date.

Makes you wonder how larger firms manage!

Good luck.

You won't get vat changed. They can't do it. You'll need a new agent code and 64-8 for each client.

Never managed to do paye but all notices are now online anyway so it's not an issue.

1. In 2020 I changed our own VAT registration's address online;

2. To change our address in the old agent account portal I was instructed by an unhelpful telephone chappie to write to: BT VAT, HMRC, BX9 1WR;

3. Our new "Agent Services Account" magically contained our new address.

I cannot say whether the action at "1", above, effected the change at "3"; although it would seem so. Life's too short to have worried about "2". So far as VAT is concerned, is that old login ("2") defunct yet? Or will it continue to exist for special cases, I wonder?

I recall seeing that vat is possible if you are a vat reg agent.

Non vat reg agents have the issue.

I could be wrong.

The VAT agent address seems to have changed, but not the address associated with the separate Agent Services Account. Time will tell what happens when they receive our letter about that.

You're right. Non VAT registered agents cannot change their address in the VAT agents register at all! It does not matter much, as HMRC never use that address for VAT purposes except as a security question.

Where do folk write to these days for the agent maintainer? I am sure I couldn't actually find an address last time I looked.

It can mean one thing, Arthur.
It's a job for the Head of Debits.
