Changing employment hours

Changing employment hours

Didn't find your answer?

I am thinking of reducing staff working hours from 5 days to 3 days per week due to cash flow problems. Is there anything I should do, apart from giving them plenty of notice, and are there any complications?

Also large debt owing to HMRC covering last 3 years.Errors have been found that have increased the underpayment i.e payslips issued to one staff member representing 2 members of staff's wages and SSP claim missed. Can these returns be corrected online or must they be on paper?

Your first question is for an employment lawyer or HR professional, not an accountant.

Your second question is for an accountant better versed in PAYE / RTI reporting than I am.

You can make claim for recovery of SSP in a previous tax year here. All corrections to the P35 must be done online. you need to file the difference between what was declared and what it should have been. ie 10k wages declared but should have been 11k, the amended P35 would show 1k, same for tax & NI

Legal issue

For your legal/employment issue, you might try:

Make sure you select the correct category of law when you ask the question, and state it's for the UK.

Used in the past for about £20 or so for a question, very useful for an overview of the issues involved at the very least.
