CJRS - Reduced Pay

Furlough Pay more than his normal pay

Didn't find your answer?

Here's a new one on me.

Fella was on £35000, furloughed in April.  He was getting £2333.33 a month CJRS pay.

He returned to work, on reduced hours, from October, and got two months pay of £2083.33 (£25000 pa).

Now he's on furlough again from 1 December.   Is his pay still based on his pre-March salary of £35000 ?

It seems crazy that he gets more on furlough than he would at work.

Yes that's my understanding as Paul has said. When you do the online calculator, it refers to pay in March too, so definitely correct.

Mine too. But I thought I'd better check.

With hindsight, he should've been on flexible furlough from October but neither employer nor employee saw Lockdown 2 coming.

Once you throw out all the norms of logic and/or fairness (an essential step when dealing with CJRS), then the only reason he got "more on furlough than he would at work" was - as you've hinted - because someone forgot or decided not to apply the flexible furlough rules.
Aside of the sometimes odd results when those rules are applied, the employee would've sailed on through with unchanged earnings (leaving the employer, of course, to work out the different reclaim amounts with each change of the rules)!
This simplistic method of 'protecting earnings' (and jobs) was the sole purpose of CJRS.

I agree too - go with the March salary.
It almost seems like swindling, but as Paul says, them's the rules.
