We calculated our historical weekly figures in most cases on the employees contractual working week Monday to Friday where they received a set salary per week. When we had a part week, employee furloughed with effect from a Wednesday and paid Friday of that week we paid Monday and Tuesday at full rate because they worked, then 3/5 of week at 80%. So are HMRC now stating we should have only paid 3/7 of a week for the furloughed days (so Weds, Thursday, Friday) which is less than 80 percent of Contractual Pay. My understanding was that the furlough pay should match the claim. If we have employees furloughed in future part way through a week how do we explain that their daily rate will be less than 80% of what they were expecting based on contract. Seems unfair. The employer is losing out on what has been paid and the claim. This whole thing is madness

7 days really doesn't make sense does it.
I would be doing 2/5 and 3/5 if it applied to us.
Am thankful it does not
I agree it's a crazy idea but HMRC make the rules, we just play to them.
Make sure they come back to work on a Monday morning.
Then they get paid for the weekend.
If they have five days off out of seven, they get 71% of a week's pay.
If they have three days off out of five, they only get 60%.
There'll be winners and losers. Make sure you're a winner.
Putting some numbers on it, say the employee gets £350 a week.
You seem to have paid him for Wed to Fri, 3 days at £70 = £210.
You should've paid him for Wed to Sun, 5 days at £50 = £250.
Yay! Everyone's a winner!
