Client confusion re multiple online HMRC logins

Client (and me) confused by clients multiple govt gateway logins that don't work

Didn't find your answer?

Client has advised she has 2 ID logins but neither gets her into her self assessment. One seems to have information about her pension income (on PAYE) and the other one doesn't seem to work at all.

So she says she can't login to her self assessment with HMRC.

I have suggested either trying to set up a personal tax account, phoning HMRC online services or just starting all over again and setting up a new gateway login.

Does any one have any suggestions as to what might be done so she can access her self assessment account with HMRC?

Never had to deal with this problem before for a client so to be honest not quite sure whats going on which is why I though maybe starting from scratch again might help.

Thank you

If she tries to set up a new self assessment and it doesn't let her because a login already exists, chances are she's set up an account sometime in the past with the one that doesn't work.

A call to HMRC will be required. They're quite helpful, and will be able to update her email address then send a password reset. They'll of course run through security beforehand, so she should have NI number and recent payslips etc at the ready.

Hmm...
Are you registered as an agent with HMRC??? We're not allowed to use clients logins and the only time I can think of using clients logins would be for a new client coming after 20/25th of Jan with less than week before the deadline.

All you need is to enter client's UTR , nino and postcode and they will get a letter in the post which you then enter on your HMRC agent portal.
