Closing a PAYE scheme: does the CIS 'scheme' close

Didn't find your answer?

Morning campers,

Just about to close a client's PAYE scheme (using Monesoft). Just wondering if anyone here could confirm if this will close the CIS scheme automatically or if I need to take further action for the CIS bit.

Thanks!

No.

Illogical as you can't have a CIS scheme without the PAYE, but they have to be closed separately. You also have to file nil monthly returns for CIS until you close the scheme, but if there are any penalties they can be cancelled when scheme is closed.

I believe that the Director has to phone up Hmrc to close the CIS.

It appears an agent can also via the CIS helpline, as I did earlier today.

no it doesn't. You need to call hmrc paye (listen to the same music over and over again) and they will close it for you if you're authorised as agent. Make sure that all your CIS300 are uptodate, though.
