Companies House and extending the accounting date

Extending the accounting date of a company

Didn't find your answer?

So, I have shortened the accounting date of companies on numerous occasions.  However, it has been sometime since I have extended one.

I  will be extending the date by three days so that the year end finishes at the end of the month.

So, my two questions are:Am I correct that if extended once then that is fine as long as this procedure has not been completed for this company in the last 5 years.

I have never extended the accounting date of this company.  I am the only accountant this company has had.

Since the company would in effect have been trading 1 year plus 3 days then what do I do about the corporation tax?  Do I need to file 2 CT returns or will 1 suffice.? What about the computation ?  I use taxfiler software.

Thank you  readers.

You will need to do two returns, Taxfiler can do this for you if you choose the right options and know what you are doing. This assumes they actually started trading on the date of incorporation.

Why bother extending?
You can make accounts up to 7 days either side of the ARD.

Surely you still made up the accounts to the end of the month when you shortened the accounting period ?

Or didn't you ?

So, I do not understand your reply? Can you please clarify. What do you mean when you say 'Or didn't you.' No I did not. This is the point. The accounting period ending is not currently the end of the month and I am seeking so to do.
I am interested in your reply. Thank you.

You said you amended the Accounting Reference Date.

There was no need to make up accounts to that date. You can make up the accounts to a date 7 days either side of the ARD. This saves submitting two CT600s when the date is moved back to the end of the month.

As you have discovered.
