companies house basic services outsourcing

Didn't find your answer?

Hi All

I’m a long term lurker here, but I’ve just set up an account with this being my first post. ACCA qualified and up until late 2000’s had my own sole trade practice, when unfortunately a long-term health condition took a turn for the worse, and I’m now nearly 40 and permanently disabled. My condition is now stable and I am looking to return to work, but I obviously have lots of constraints to deal with, including only being able to work remotely, and then just for a few hours each day.

One of my ideas of how to progress is to offer basic Company Secretarial services to accountants i.e. Confirmation statement filing, change of office/directors/shareholders forms, etc. Ive ‘kept my hand in’ over the years on this side and have a handful of clients I currently undertake these services for.

I’m hoping I can use this forum to undertake a bit of initial ‘market research’ and to that end, can I ask:
1)    Would you utilise a freelancer to undertake these types of tasks remotely? I’m thinking it will possibly be of more interest to the sole traders amongst you, who don’t have in-house staff to delegate this to?

2)    Using the Confirmation statement as an example – how much would you be prepared to pay, say including filing fee?

Many thanks in advance for any answers/comments/suggestions

As a sole trader, for me, it is the company's responsibility to deal with there secretarial services and submit the confirmation statements, etc.

If I file a basic confirmation statement(say 15 min) I would charge circa £50 or any adjustments being £100.

If they wish to add or remove directors, again a basic £50.

Like most things, they have the details but can not be fussed (putting it politely) to do the task.

So I suppose £200 per hour is not a bad rate.

To be honest I’m not convinced. It’s relatively low fee work and I’m not sure there would be sufficient margin to make it interesting.

Also, a lot more clients seem to be Companies House savvy and do their own CS01 etc.

I wonder if operating as a remote company secretary direct to small, not micro, companies might be a better move where the quantity and variety of work is beyond the ability the company has in-house?
