Companies House Micro Entity Filing

Didn't find your answer?

Evening all,

This is going to sound like such a stupid question but I am trying to file micro entity accounts at Companies House but when I'm entering liabilities they are being entered as positives.  Am I being really stupid (obviously am) but I cannot work out how they go in as negatives.  Its adding them rather than deducting them.  Can anyone advise please?

I have all the numbers but they are not going into the form as I expected them to.

EDIT

Sorry, I've come up as anonymous.  If I put the number in brackets it states invalid number.  If I put number as 'normal' it states cannot be a positive number.

I have never used the Companies House software and I don’t think other accountants on here have either. I would try the ukbusinessforum or engage an accountant (especially if you want to ensure the accounts and tax are correct, you have met all your obligations, are doing it all legally and optimising your tax position).

Hi Matrix,

Appreciate the reply. Will give the forums you suggested a try. I had an accountant but wasn't happy with him and gradually ended up doing more and more myself but paying them more for less. I have a sound knowledge of accounts and tax so not overly concerned and I keep up to date records on a good accounting software. I've just hit a wall with the Companies House filing. I will give them a call tomorrow if I can't get the answer online.

Thanks again for the reply and suggestions.

What happens when you put a minus before the number?

It won’t accept it. It comes up with an error message. I don’t know if I’m just being really stupid or the form isn’t working as it should since it recognises that a liability cannot be a positive value ( gives an error message) but it won’t allow me to enter it as a value to subtract. I’ve tried minus and brackets but will not accept either. I’m thinking it must be a form error??

EDIT - would you believe it, I've just woke up and it's accepting the minus sign today! Must have been glitching yesterday! Happy days. Can finally submit and get this off my plate.

I would have thought most of us do, but it's hardly 'software'. You just type the figures in, it's very easy.

Yeah, you need a minus sign. As you've discovered.

In the days when I used to use CoHo and HMRC software, it always confused me that I needed to put in a minus for CoHo but not for HMRC.

Still use CoHo occasionally for dormants. I've seen worse.
