Company accounts to Companies House by post

Didn't find your answer?

Hi all,

I have a query which I hope the community can assist with. I have always filed company accounts using software however I have taken on a new client that does not have their authentication code. To makes matters worse they do not receive post that is sent to the registered office.

The accounts were due by 31 August but I've managed to get an extension.

Do I simply sent filleted accounts to Companies House along with a short covering letter? I've read guidance on the Gov and Companies House websites along with previous questions on Accountingweb and it sounds to be straightforward. I just don't want to send incorrect documentation and miss the extended deadline.

Thanks

Yes, it is as simple as sending the signed accounts to Companies House (or delivering by hand if you are close enough).
Watch out as accounts can be rejected if they don't meet the Quality of Documents requirements (such as having the signature in the wrong colour ink)

Should be OK.
Can you get the client to call Cos House and ask for the authentication code to be sent to the director's home? At least you are sorted going forward

Thanks for the response. We've tried to change the registered office address over the phone but were unsuccessful.

Once the accounts are filed I plan to send form AD01 to Companies House and hope the company hasn't joined the PROOF scheme.

What arrangement does the client have with the RO about forwarding post??

From speaking with the client, all post should be opened and scanned to them on a regular basis. Registered office is over 100 miles away from where the client lives (client googled registered office and went with the cheapest option found) so collecting the post isn't feasible.

Registered office services "apparently" haven't been forwarding the post.

Well, that's what you get for "cheapest option".

Personally, i'd be prepared to travel 100 miles just to give them a piece of my mind in a very personal way.

Oh - and to ask for my money back.

Jeez - not getting post from the Registered Office is a situation full of dangers.

As far as the accounts go, just send them in. No letter of explanation needed.

Posting to Companies House is easy. However I’d go to the Post Office and pay for guaranteed next day service. I think it about £5.
I sent one four delays before a deadline back in March. The Country shut down with snow the next day and the normally posted accounts turned up a week later. Got tired of arguing with CH about the penalty and paid it myself!
