I have a client (director owned Ltd). He wants to replace his vehicle and is debating whether to put it through as a company car. His spouse already has a private car so this car would be for business use (due to how dirty it gets in his trade I can't actually see it being used for family outings).
However, he will be needing to travel from home to his workshop everyday in it. Is this going to exclude us from saying its "business use only" ? My gut feeling is that it will as travel to a pemanent workplace is not permitted but just wanted to check with others viewpoints.

You're right. Home to regular workplace is always private use.
If the vehicle not going to be used for other private use, it may make more sense to have a company van - although check the proposed vehicle first to ensure that it qualifies.
What Paul says - I would see if a van is more practical
If the guy prefers a car to a van, I would have my doubts as to his credibility.
This sounds like a bloke who wants a tax free car.
Remember it just needs to be available for private use. In this sort of case it is very difficult to prove that it is not available even if no actual private use.
