Computer systems and software

Computer systems and software

Didn't find your answer?

Most companies that I deal with classify computer systems and software as tangible fixed assets, with intangible fixed assets being limited to goodwill, patents etc.

What do you think?

IAS 38
You'd include the operating system software costs within the hardware costs as tangible, however under IAS38 it's likely that you'd have to classify other software as intangible.

Usually tangible
Because sofware tend to be intrinsic to the "computer system" it will tend to be tangible.

Had the Romans known about software (and websites) they would, no doubt, have thought of something other than "touch" to describe them.
