Really ?

I would've thought that the number of people who saw this as plausible would be minute.

Has your client ever claimed any Dutch sickness benefit ?

She did reside in the Netherlands till 2006 so it could have been identity theft rather than a UK scam!

Why would the UK DWP be trying to recover an overpayment of Dutch sickness benefit?

Given that there's no such thing as the Department of Works and Pensions, I'd say that ...

A letter, though. That's unusual.

Ask the peelers to check it out if you're toey about it. Or even pop into your friendly local Jobcentre.

Scam - two errors in title of the Department For Work and Pensions. For not of; and work is singular not plural. They prefer electronic payments and you have to ring to be sent a paying in slip.

The request for a cheque does suggest that some bank has opened an account in the name of "Department of Works and Pensions".

What happened to money laundering checks ? Is it just we accountants doing them?

Was it Bernard that told us banks just need a mobile number these days?

"Need". Not "just need".

Well observed. The tax practitioner must read, and read well, that which is written.
