Copy of last CT return

Is there a way of getting a new client last CT return from HMRC

Didn't find your answer?

Hi All

I have reccently taken on a company as a client and have been trying to get pervous CT and accounting infomation from their previous accountant. They do not owe them any money and accourding to Companies House the last accounts have been submitted. I sent the relivant letter several months ago and recently the client has tried to get hold of them with no avial. The client does not have a copys of the infomation required either due to the previous accountant not actually giving them accounts or return to sign. he has just told them that there is no CT to pay.

Obvously this is cause me issues as i dont have any infomation on the capital allowances claimed or written down values of the assets and not even a TB. the only info i can get is the mirco company accounts off Companies House website.

If i was to request a copy of the last CT return from HMRC would they also be able to provided me the attached accounts?

Also the previous accountant cause several thousand pounds worth of fines fo non submission of CIS return, would there be any legal recourse for the client to persue for damages and get the accounting and CT history.

HMRC will put the CT600 copy in the post to your client. I doubt they will send the accounts but you could ask.

I wouldn’t get involved with issues around the old accountants and fees and fines, leave that to the client.

If you can't get it off HMRC then the client should be able to - it is their information after all!

As Matrix has said if the client wants redress they would need to take legal advice and prove that the negligence of the previous accountant caused the loss. The previous accountant wasn't based in Dover by any chance?

I've had stuff from HMRC in the past.

To be fair, the return's not much use. What you need is the Corporation Tax comp to get at the Capital Allowances pool balances.
