Copying clients to an Agents Services Account

Didn't find your answer?

I'm in the process of signing a new client up for MTD for VAT. I've already got several clients on MTD that are linked to my ASA, but these are only VAT clients on MTD, not Self Assessment.

However, when I go into my ASA to copy clients over it says I have 'xx VAT and Self Assessment clients to copy over'. Looking at the number of clients that are going to be copied, it looks like it includes all my Self Assessment clients?  I didn't do that when I signed previous VAT clients up - has the procedure changed?  Will copying Self Assessment clients to my ASA effect my old HMRC online account? I'm happy with how that works and I don't want that to change.

I didn’t know you had to copy clients over. I just register them for MTD from my ASA by typing in the VAT number etc and it works fine. I guess your SA ones are all ready for the next MTD!

Does it actually say the name as my VAT ones just say the number so I stay away?

Thanks for that, I've signed him up for MTD without copying all the others over. I didn't want to copy the Self Assessment clients over in case it messed with the old online account, and I was worried that I might enrol them all into MTD by mistake!!

Don't worry. The actual function of copying over SA clients doesn't work yet. Or at least it didn't for me anyway.

You should be able to copy a vat client over without pulling the rest also.

But you've registered them in the ASA now anyway so it doesn't matter.
