Corporation Tax Investigations

Any Corporation Tax Investigation?

Didn't find your answer?

Our clients have had investigations into VAT Returns, Self Assessment Returns, ATED Returns etc. but none into CT Returns in the last few years.

Have HMRC given up doing them?

Dunno but it's donkey's years since I had one.

In fact, I can't remember the last one.

I haven't had one for years either. Mind you, HMRC enquiries of all sorts in total only average maybe one per year in my client base.

They're too busy sending penalty notices for minor infractions to be bothered with major tax losses via CT returns - a bit like policing our roads; lots of cameras, few officers.

A new client came to me who was undergoing a CT inspection into his Dec 17 accounts. I didn't prepare the accounts and his previous advisers are dealing with the enquiry, but it seems they do happen.

They have asked for a detailed breakdown with supporting paperwork for motor expenses. Don't know if this is a 'hot' area for HMRC to look at. As other have said, this is the first one I've heard of in a long time.
