It will vary enormously according to the size and complexity of the entity in question, and the quality of the bookkeeping. Why are you asking?

We have a special deal at the moment. If we prepare the balance sheet then we throw the P&L in for free.

I have found it useful to carry a short length of string around with me, just in case I am asked the question.

You spelled f***witts wrong.

Edit - stars inserted because the swear-o-tron isn’t up to scratch, and even though I nearly didn’t notice, I’m pretty sure Kim-john-un would blame me for it.

But if i see you are doing it for £7, I will have to quote £6, or less, or, in fact, I may even pay the clients to let me do it. That's got you beat hasn't it?

If a client had set up their business in April but was only now considering their pricing structure/costing model, ie it had no businessplan whatsoever, what would you be saying to them Louise?

costs should come down with MTD as I am of the opinion the Balance Sheet might become a thing of the past for many who go it alone. In/Out taxes done and no Accountant Fees.

Just be aware of asking all the right questions before you quote and be specific about what is not included and would cost extra.

As an example, I received a rush job from a new client passed over from another accountant who is retiring Did my usual quote for accounts and payroll etc, with an hourly charge for any additional time spent on books etc.

Usually for the size of business I would have at least expected all the book keeping work to have been entered onto a spreadsheet at the bare minimum. No - when they turned up I receive a hefty box with all the expenses in 12 separate files and all the sales in another 12 separate files. Type of trade means they don't have to register for VAT.

They couldn't get the bank statement in a CSV file as I since found are not very computer literate, and it was 145 pages.

I did one month to see how long a month would take, then phoned the client before proceeding to explain that this is more than preparing a set of accounts job, and that the fee would more than double before I could continue.

Always leave a get out, so that you can state what your quote does not include in case you have to charge more.

I'd say £200 for a company tax return;
£150 for a Partnership tax return; and
£125 for a tax return for the self-employed ;-)

I think it depends on what area you are from, on pricing. As an example, the self employed fee you charge sounds quite low to me.

I charge a lot more than this for the self employed tax return, which includes a couple of hours of time to put the figures together that I will enter onto the return, and also covers time spent on the phone with odd queries I may have before producing the report.

But if there are other income streams, I charge for each additional section of the return, on top of this too.

I would imagine my esteemed colleague's quoted fees do not include the preparation or derivation of any of the figures contained therein, but merely filling in and filing the actual forms.

Actually, Duggimon, I copied and pasted those prices from the OP's website ;-)

I rather suspect they include the balance sheet and P&L.
