COVID-19 £10k Grants in Wales, for multiple shops

Is there a restriction in England on multiple SBRR shops claiming the £10k grant?

Didn't find your answer?

Hi All

There is a multiple property restriction in Wales that stops the same ratepayer receiving more than 2 x £10,000 grants if that business runs multiple shops with an RV below £12,000 within a local authority area.  I know that there is an existing restriction for businesses (and my client is a modest family business, not Tesco) claiming Small Business Rates Relief (SBRR) on multiple properties but there was no indication in the UK Government announcement that this would be the case for this £10k grant.  I do appreciate that it is for devolved governments to implement the scheme and that general government announcements cannot go into great detail, but there is no mention of businesses with multiple properties in version 2 of the guidance issued on 25 March Small Business Grant Fund, which applies to England.

So can someone tell me if the same restriction applies to the £10k grant in England (ie a maximum of two) or whether this is just a Welsh issue?

Thanks everyone, I know its a mad time

Stay safe

Tim

Hi, Tim,
Sorry, I haven't really got an answer, but just wanted to join conversation. My business occupies 2 separately rated properties, £6,600 and £1,400 rateable value respectively. One Ground Floor, the other a separate basement, at the same address (different Business rates accounts). I received one £10,000 Small Business grant, but I see no reasons (yet) why the grant wasn't also paid for the other property my business occupies. I see conflicting messages on my Council (Brighton Hove), such as:
Question: "Can businesses with multiple properties claim multiple grants? (e.g. Can a hairdresser with three shops, each with less than a £15k rateable value, claim three £10k grants?) "
Answer:"Businesses can only get one grant under the Small Business Grant Scheme."
Yet in their FAQ's, they say: "Businesses that occupy more than one property may be entitled to a grant for each of their eligible properties, subject to state aid de minimis limits."
Where does the government say that Small Businesses can only claim one grant per "business" ( as opposed to separately rated business property)
Thank you
Peter

Take a look at the legislation.
